VCIP 2010 Was Held in USTC
The four-day-conference Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP) 2010 had fulfilled its commissions successfully and was closed at Huangshan International Grand Hotel, Anhui Province, on July, 14th. The conference was co-sponsored by USTC and CAS, and was co-operated by USTC and Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). Prof. Wei Guo from USTC, Dr. Li Shipeng from MSRA, and Prof. B. Girod from Stanford University served as co-chair of the conference. Prof. Li Houqiang from USTC, Dr. Wu Feng from MSRA, and Prof. Pascal Frossard from ETH served as chairmen of the Joint Procedures Committee of the conference.
VCIP is initiated by International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) in 1986. It is the first worldwide top-class academic conference specifically set for video communication and image processing, which aims at setting up a communication platform for those research institutions and colleges to show and share their newest achievement in this field. The conference is held yearly, while this is the second time for it to be held in mainland China. VCIP 2010 included 113 papers from 23 countries and areas, in which 42 papers were selected as lectures, 31 papers as posters, and 40 papers as special sessions. VCIP 2010 consists of regular sessions, special sessions, panels, keynote speeches, and tutorials, where nearly 200 world famous experts and scholars could sit together, sharing the newest achievement in image/video processing and communication area, looking into the future of multimedia technology.
Prof. Li Weiping, Dean of School of Information Science and Technology of USTC, is hosting the VCIP 2010 reception dinner.
On reception dinner, Prof. Li Weiping from School of Information Science and Technology of USTC showed warm welcome and sincere thanks to the representatives and guests on behalf of the school. He introduced the overview and features of USTC as well as its development in information science related fields. He cordially invited scholars present at the conference to visit our school and carry out academic exchanges along with cooperation. In particular, master lecturer of USTC, Prof. Chen Changwen contributed greatly to VCIP 2010. As the conference advisor, he prepared the conference actively and invited many experts in this field to give keynote speeches and lectures for the conference.

The success of VCIP 2010 promoted international academic exchange and cooperation in the field of video communication and image processing while enhancing the world influence of USTC greatly. The conference played an important role in promoting the school’s academic construction and talent development in this field.
