IEEE Student Branch of USTC Is Founded

After a one-year-long preparation, the IEEE Student Branch of USTC embraced its founding ceremony at west campus of USTC on July 7th. Membership Manager WANG Lan from IEEE China Office, Vice President LI Shipeng from Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), Vice President DOU Xiankang from USTC along with the leadership of School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) attended the ceremony. Dean of SIST, Prof. LI Weiping presided at the ceremony.

DOU addressed the ceremony. He congratulated the IEEE Student Branch on its founding, and gave highly approval to the School’s practice on encouraging the students to join the international research network as well. He pointed out that the founding of the Branch provided a good platform for the majority of the students to establish academic relationship with oversea scientific and engineering staffs.

 

 

 

Later, visiting professor of SIST, IEEE Fellow, Prof. YU Zhiping from Tsinghua University gave a report entitled “IEEE Shapes Modern Society”. And then, Dr. WANG Lan made a congratulation speech on behalf of IEEE China Office. After that winner of IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Best Paper Award of year 2010, associate professor LING Zhenhua from SIST gave a special speech entitled “Research on speech synthesis with articulatory features”, which won warm applause from audiences on the spot.

 

 

 

 

At last, the above mentioned professors and some other guests were invited to participate in a discussion under the topic of “What's the benefit of joining the IEEE”. Under a relaxed atmosphere, the audiences gained a deeper recognization of IEEE through interactions with the guests.
