IEEE Fellow, Prof. Rick Blum Visits SIST
IEEE Fellow, Prof. Rick Blum from Lehigh University visited School of information Science and Technology (SIST) in response to the invitation of Prof. LI Weiping, Dean of the School, on July 14th. During his visit, which was supported by “Graduate Educational Innovation Program” of USTC, Prof. Blum took part in several academic activities with students and faculties of SIST.
In the morning of July 14th, Prof. Blum gave a lecture entitled “Sensor Networking for Detection: From Distributed Detection to Energy Savings and MIMO Radar”. Through the lecture, Prof. Blum introduced the latest work that his team did on Sensor Network Detection and so on. He reviewed some achievements first and then discussed various situations and the corresponding research progress. Later, he introduced new energy-saving methods of detecting signal in wireless sensor network and the potential benefit that sensor network detection technology brings for improving MIMO radar’s resolution. The lecture received highly appreciation from the audiences present.
In the afternoon, Prof. Blum attended a discussion meeting presided by Dean LI. On the meeting, Prof. ZHANG Wenyi and Prof. LING Qiang introduced the developing situation of related research areas on behalf of their departments separately, and Prof. Blum discussed the detail situation in depth with faculties present.
Prof. Blum’s research interest includes Communication Signal Processing, sensor network as well as radar and sensor processing. He now serves as professor in Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Dean of Signal Processing and Communication Research Laboratory in Lehigh University. He is also an IEEE Fellow, IEEE Third Millennium Medal winner, and a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi.
