RCMSI Wins RFIT 2011 Best Student Paper Award
Recently, a paper of RCMSI (Research Center of Micronanoelectronic System Integration) which is entitled “Low Phase Noise and Linear Gain VCO Using Self-Switched Biasing” and co-written by CHEN Nan, HUANG Lu, WANG Chenluan, YAN Yuepeng, and LIN Fujinag won the Best Student Paper Award of IEEE RFIT (Radio-Frequency Integration Technology Symposium) 2011.
The Symposium, which was cosponsored by IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society and IEEE Solid-State Circuit Society, was held from Nov. 30th to Dec. 2nd, in Beijing. Prof. WANG Zhihua from Tsinghua University assumed the office of General Chair, while Prof. James C. M. Hwang from Lehigh University and Prof. Howard Luong from Hong Kong University of Science & Technology acted as Chair of Program Committee of the Symposium.
CHEN Nan, the first author of the paper, is now a second year doctoral graduate student at the Dept. of Electronics Science and Technology, SIST, USTC. In collaboration with Prof. LIN Fujiang, Prof. HUANG Lu, and Dr. YAN Yuepeng, he proposed in his paper a low-power, low-phase noise voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) for 2.4GHz wireless communication, which may realize the automatic control of Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET) according to the physical mechanism of flicker noise. The proposal also solved the problem of being nonlinear in traditional structures since it takes the advantage of Varactor to achieve linear gain by using distributed bias capacitor technology.
RCMSI is co-founded by Institute of Microelectronics of CAS (IMECAS) and USTC in September, 2010. This time the award is right the result of implementing the policy of ”combining the institutes of the CAS with the departments at USTC” by IMECAS and USTC.
