Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) excels in establishing an academic environment for research. As a thriving lab of more than 250 full-time employees, conducting research work in more than 20 different fields, and a totally open work atmosphere, all researchers are granted the freedom to work on their preferred research topics and projects, and to pursue long-term goals that extend far beyond current product cycles. University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) is under the jurisdiction of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and is noted for its advanced science and high technology programs, unique management studies and well-tailored disciplines in the humanities.

MSRA and USTC have joined forces to develop a summer program for students all over the world to work with fellow students of diverse cultural background under the guidance of MSRA researchers and USTC faculty. Participating students will interact with top researchers through exclusive seminars and meetings to build an academic and social network of collaboration that will last a lifetime. By ensuring access to hands-on opportunities, this program enables students to realize their individual potential and pursue their passions while doing innovative research.

MSRA is located in Beijing, China, with easy access to both the bustling urban city as well as traditional cultural gems, including the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Great Wall. USTC is located in Hefei, China, with natural beauty, Yellow Mountain, nearby. Participating students will spend time at both MSRA in Beijing and USTC in Hefei. The summer program includes trips and events of special interests, as well as free Chinese language training for non-Chinese speaking students.

Participating students will receive a competitive compensation package, which includes a monthly stipend, meal and transportation allowances, and living accommodations. The work place is also equipped with many amenities, such as white-board tables and spacious lounges that encourage and stimulate open discussion and creative ideas.
